What is flow?

There is a psychological state called flow, or "the zone", in which a person becomes completely immersed in their activity or task, and feels a great sense of happiness and energy. The psychologist Csíkszentmihályi is best known for his work on "flow", and spent time analysing the possible link between flow and education - he suggested that encouraging "overlearning" and providing opportunities for students to slightly stretch their skills will lead to a state of flow.
