Social Change
Religion argued to be a revolutionary or conservation force for social change. This means that overall that religion can be a revolutionary force which can lead to society changing in structure or belief system. E.g. Maduro with the liberation theology is evidence of religion acting as a force for social change. Whilst in some cases religion is a conservation force which can keep society stable and unchanging. E.g. the Catholic church supported traditional sexual morality which opposed sex outside of marriage and abortion which in turn supports tradition and opposing change.
