Some sociological theories are said to be reductionist – this is usually a criticism and one that they would be challenged by the adherents of the theories themselves. For example, Marxists might be accused of reducing everything to economics or class, while feminists might be accused of reducing everything to gender. What this means is essentially taking a complex problem and giving a simple (arguably an over-simple) explanation for it.
