Patriarchy (Beliefs)
Feminists argue that religion is patriarchal in nature as it is male-dominated and mainly serving the best interests of men. Religion acts as a way of preventing change and ensuring men stay the most powerful groups in society. Women are oppressed in both public (public announcements and positions held in the hierarchy) and private spheres (socialisation done by the family) which details how women are treated or viewed within religions. For example; within Islam women are seen to be oppressed because the Prophet Mohammed is a man and men make all the legal and moral judgements as leaders within the religion.
