Locality

Sociologists are interested in trends and patterns in criminality and victimisation in relation to social class, gender and ethnicity, but another important factor is locality. It is clear that there are significant differences between rural and urban areas and also between different neighbourhoods within towns and cities. The type of crime common in particular areas also varies. Sociologists study this in great detail when considering ecological explanations of crime.
