Informed Consent
A major ethical consideration in research is whether the participants in the research have given their consent to be involved. It is also important that the participants understand what it is they have consented to be part of: it is checking this full understanding which makes it informed consent. This can normally be achieved by fully briefing research subjects before commencing the research, and informing them that they have the right to withdraw from the research at any time. However, some research methods, such as covert observation are much more difficult to establish any kind of informed consent, and are therefore often deemed unethical. However, sometimes there might be no other way to answer some research questions.
