Historical Documents
Sociologists can use a wide range of historical documents to assist them with their research. This can refer to any documents from the past, and have included birth, marriage and death records, the census, as well as historical personal documents like letters and diaries. These are secondary sources for sociologists as the data already exists. It is often qualitative although can be used to generate quantitative data too (e.g. from the census or birth, marriage or death records).
