Fundamentalism
Fundamentalism is commonly defined as the religious militancy which individuals use to prevent their religious identities eroding. Fundamentalists argue that religious beliefs and ideologies have become increasingly watered down and under threat. Therefore, they advocate that individuals should use religious texts and follow tradition to prevent any further erosion of their religious identities caused by secularisation. For example; ISIS argues that mainstream Islam has started to ignore some of the fundamental teachings from the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad, therefore, they argue that these teaching must be followed as described within the Qur’an to prevent religious identities being watered down or lost.
