The ageing population is a result of the rising life expectancy within the United Kingdom. This is where individuals are living for longer and being healthier as a result of modern medicine. Therefore, the dependency ratio will be unequal with more dependents than individuals that can pay National Insurance and Tax which are used to fund important services in the UK. A fix that the government has put in place is raising the age of retirement, to enable people to pay into the system for longer.
