Age (Beliefs)
Age has been argued to affect whether an individual is likely to adhere and join a religion or not. One main reason as to why there appears to be a period effect within statistics can be explained through the different experiences of socialisation. In the 2011 Census it was found that 4 in 10 under the age of 25 stated that they did not adhere to a religion, which increased with 4 in 5 under 50 year olds stating similar. Therefore, age is a determining factor as to whether an individual will follow a traditional religious movement. However, note that these statistics generally include and analyse only mainstream religions which will not include new age movements.
