Universal Credit: Plea not to axe £20 a week ‘lifeline’

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) has urged the UK government to provide a temporary rise in Universal Credit and to make some other benefits permanent.

Many households could see their income cut by £20 a week from next April. JRF have suggested that around "16 million people will be in households facing an overnight income loss equivalent to £1,040 a year, with those on the lowest incomes and families with children being hardest hit."

This article could be used for the Work, Poverty and Welfare unit (responses and solutions to poverty by the state and by private, voluntary and informal welfare providers in contemporary society).
