Tipping in the USA
5th April 2018
The following video highlights tipping within the food service industry in the USA.
In some states in America, there is no minimum wage and so many servers desperately need tips to ensure that they take home a decent pay packet (and sometimes that is not enough, as the video explores).
The women in the video also describe some of their own experiences in dealing with customers, from feeling as though they are required to flirt with customers and in some cases they have been victims of assault.
This video and its contents could be used within a number of units and themes in sociology, including: Work, Poverty and Welfare and Crime and Deviance, gender, discrimination and sexuality.
