The Sociology of Sexuality
1st July 2009
Sociology teachers and textbooks and syllabuses, don’t say enough about this - I think. But check out Johann Hari’s article on the impact of the Stonewall riots on social attitudes to sexuality in today’s Independent.
There’s some useful stuff here - especially if you apply a sociological knowledge of social control and positive and negative sanctions. How do sanctions control the development of sexuality in contemporary UK society? Are gay sexual identities constructed as deviant in our society - and if so, how?
And of course, you can link this snippet into several topics on the syllabus/specification: families and households, culture and identity, education, and crime and deviance.
