Social Class and Oxbridge
13th November 2017
Recently released data has shown that four-fifths of students who attend either Oxford or Cambridge university end up in some of Britain’s highest positions in society, such as senior managers, lawyers and doctors.
The MP David Lammy believes that this demonstrates the divide in educational achievements and future opportunities between the social classes. This is also illustrated by the regional divide where students come from who attend either university, with a greater proportion from the home counties in the south of England.
This could be a useful story within the topic of Education and concepts such as social class, ethnicity and gender.
