More Competition
1st December 2009
Having to rush this, but just to draw readers attention to the announcement of the launch of an A level in Anthropology. Good luck to them! And of course, although I’m sure the anthropologists will have much to say about competition and status in different cultures, all I can do as a sociological imperialist in decline is point out that it is Sociology which can perhaps explain best the fragmentation of the curriculum in British schools and the ideological hegemony of ‘diversity and choice’. Don’t get me wrong - anthropology is a good subject and I hope that lots of students will study it. But we do need, somewhere in the curriculum, a space for the critical glare which is called Sociology.
