When looking at identity, it is important to remember that individuals are never one type in isolation. This is often something overlooked by students when learning the Culture and Identity unit. Ethnicity and gender brings with it lots of nuances which require close examination. This BBC clip highlights how breaking down traditions and stereotypes associated with the role of Indian women raised with such norms and values, are fighting back at the assumptions and traditions which they believe a patriarchal government is trying to reinforce.

For an extra twist, teachers could explore not just gender and ethnicity, but the role of being a part of a millennial generation and how this may be a turning point within Indian culture.
