Free School Meals
17th May 2019
Many students from disadvantaged families receive free school meals when they attend school, which often counts as lunch package.
Citizens UK argues that if a pupil is absent from school or has not spent the full amount, rather than the money being held for another day, the money is kept by the school meal provider.
Approximately 750,000 secondary school students receive free school meals in the UK, and Citizens UK believe that nearly 20% of these meals are not taken up.
