Do Pictures Tell the Truth?

Do photographs ever lie? Have a look at this iconic image of the class structure as exemplified in the image of public schoolboys and a group of ‘toughs’ and then read Ian Jack’s article in Tuesday’s Guardian. You may find you look at the picture in a rather different light. The picture is of particular interest as it has become so iconic and it has figured in several sociology textbooks and has been used as a jacket cover on books by Michael Argyle and David Cannadine’s ‘Class in Britain.’
