Cheer Up Luv Project

This video outlines the issue of sexual harassment of women within society. The ‘Cheer Up Luv’ project aims to change the attitudes about sexual harassment and try to make it a lesson normal thing within society. A concept which fits in well when discussing differing gendered experiences of men and women in society. Women are often exposed to sexual harassment in a range of ways which can have some serious negative side-effects. Therefore, this project is important allowing for us to directly challenge societal attitudes and expectations.

As a result, socialisation of the genders may need to analysed as men are still being taught that women are property rather than humans. Within the classroom, this video can be used to highlight the issues of the ‘dark side’ of the family as something that extends to beyond just the family unit. However, as societal and gendered attitudes have shifted this has enabled women to take more of a stand regarding abuse which they have encountered.

This is a powerful project containing images about the experiences of various women. I think what would resonate with the students more is that the women that experience this are from all age groups. Meaning the experience of male oppression and abuse is not an isolated one.
