British government take lead on violence against women and girls

This article explores how the UK government has become one of the biggest funders of programmes to help prevent violence against women and girls.
The World Health Organisation estimates that one in three women worldwide will experience violence (physical and/or sexual) in their lifetime.
The funding programme has been launched by the Department for International Development (DfID) and will be used to support and develop education and training in a number of areas around the world, including: Asia, the Middle East and parts of Africa.
The article could be used within a discussion of gender and violence (Crime and Deviance), as well as within Global Development.
