Explanations
A Surveillance Society
14th October 2019
The following podcast from BBC Beyond Today explores the use of surveillance in society.
A number of organisations and governments are using technology, such as facial recognition, in an effort to help reduce crime.
Critics argue however that the use of technology in the wrong hands, such as tech companies and governments could impinge on human rights. The podcast explores this through the case study of the recent civil unrest occurring in Hong Kong.
This podcast could be given to students to listen to in their own time, or as part of an extension task for Crime and Deviance.
