Instructions to Playing Left Brain Right Brain

Purpose:

This activity tests knowledge of facts previously learned.

Preparation:

When opening this file, you may be alerted to ‘Enable macros’. Ensure that macros are enabled to allow the quiz to work.

Slide 6 has printable versions of the ‘left brain’ and ‘right brain’ cards needed by pupils when they are answering during the quiz. Print off as many of these as required and then cut up to give pupils their option cards.

Running the Activity:

Separate your class into 5 groups and assign each group a colour (either red, green, purple, blue or orange).

The class are about to be asked 12 questions about things that they have learnt. The more answers they get correct the further their counter will travel across the screen.

The quiz will be multi-choice. They will be presented with a question and two possible answers.

Start the slideshow from slide 1 and click on ‘Click to Start’. Explain the activity and the rules.

Click on ‘Click here to start’. The first question and the two possible answers will show immediately.

Once their team has decided which answer is correct they must get their card (either ‘left brain’ or ‘right brain’ ready).

On the count of three from the teacher, each group must hold up which answer they think is correct.

Click on ‘Reveal answer’ to show which is the correct option.

Click on the team colour buttons for each team who got the correct answer to move the counters.

Click on ‘Next question >>>’ to move on to question 2.

Repeat this process for all 12 questions.

The Winners!

The winning team is the team whose counter travels the furthest across the screen. If you have joint winners you may wish to use a tie-break question.
