Psychology on the box…week beginning September 6th
5th September 2014
This week there is plenty on that you can use for stimuli and resources. It’s mostly forensic psychology focused... but can also act to bring the debates to life.
Saturday at 10pm (Discovery channel) has ‘Werner Herzog on Death Row’ scheduled. It is a candid look at the crimes committed by the inmates and considers the reasons behind them. This could obviously be used for explanations of offending behaviour on the new specification…but why not think about using it for free will and determinism and the nature nurture debates as well? These feature heavily on the new AQA specification so some thought provoking clips could be useful to you.
Monday brings up Diced to Death: Countdown to murder (8pm Channel 5) which is a documentary on Ty Medland who murdered his wife in a very public place after he degrades her on social media. Why did he do it? What could possibly explain such behaviour?
On Thursday at 10.15 on BBC4 there’s a film on the infamous Christie murders which may once again provide you with some clips, or possibly a case study?
Of course there is also the England Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on Monday night. Maybe you can make that relevant to a lesson ( Psychology is everywhere...) or maybe you just want to enjoy it?!
