Psychology on the box…Week beginning 4th October
3rd October 2014
There are two interesting programmes that you might want to consider recording this week….
The big ‘not-to- miss’ programme this week is on Tuesday on BBC2 at 9pm. It’s called ‘Human Universe’ and is the first in a five part series. This episode is ‘Apemen’ and covers the evolution of the human race. This is a useful video cupboard resource as you may want to use extracts to help explain the theory of Evolution and there is also commentary on brain size of our ancestors. The fact that Brian Cox is presenting it, means it is bound to be engaging and clear to students.
On Thursday ( Channel 5, 10pm) there is a programme called ‘Kids who Kill’. This documentary covers actual crimes committed by children and, although unpleasant, it would be a useful resource for Forensic Psychology. The age of the offender is one factor to be considered when defining a crime in the courts, as the age of criminal responsibility varies globally. This could provide a good topic for debate.
