Psychology on the Box...week beginning 27th September
26th September 2014
There's a great mixture of psychology related programmes this week.. combining a variety of topics such as adoption, brains and mind magic.
On BBC2 iplayer there is still the chance to take a look at ‘Ireland’s babies’ a documentary about the adoptions that occurred in Ireland last century. This will provide a good stimulus for the Attachment topic. Maybe it could be set as a student homework?
Horizon on Monday (BBC2 9pm) provides a great film to introduce the gender topic. It is called ‘Is Your Brain Male or Female?’ and examines gender typical behaviour and whether there is a neuro scientific explanation. Don’t just think about recording it if you cover the gender topic, this documentary has potential for introducing the nature /nurture and free will /determinism debate too. It could be invaluable!
Finally this week, one to watch is Katherine Mills: Mind Games. Ms Mills uses psychology to perform some extraordinary feats such as guessing a complete stranger’s password and the word someone is reading at that particular time. This programme is on Watch channel at 9pm. Ask someone to record it for you if you don’t have access to it…I certainly shall!
