Psychology on the Box....week beginning the 30th August
28th August 2014
No forensic psychology programmes this week! That doesn't mean they are not on television, it's just that there are two programmes I wanted to focus on that tackle different topics that might be useful to you.
On Monday, BBC1 at 10.35pm there is '21Up New Generation'. This is the continuation of the project that monitors the lives of children who were 7 in 2000. They are now nudging 21 and their lives are becoming more career focused. Some are graduating, others already out in the workplace. Although this doesn't seem to link to the specification directly, it has its potential as a resource for discussion around the debates. Free will / Determinism and Nature/Nurture come to mind. That aside, it is fascinating to see how the children have grown up.
On Wednesday, BBc3 at 10 pm there is Football Fight Club. This is a documentary about Football 'Firms' who organise fights following matches. They are the football hooligan gangs. This clearly relates to the Group Displays of Aggression on the AQA specification and in a general sense to conformity on all of the specifications. It's disturbing to watch, and the views and motivations expressed are unbelievable. Students will have strong opinions about what they see.
Perfect for clips in class or as a discussion stimuli.
