Psychology on the box... week beginning 19th July

Just a few ideas for you to watch/record over the coming week. Phobias seem the 'hot topic'!
Monday 21st July | Child Genius Channel 4 9pm | This programme looks at children who are classed as genius due to their phenomenal intelligence This could be useful for cognition and development, intelligence and even to prompt debate on nature / nurture. They all have very 'accomplished' parents...is their intelligence genetic or taught? |
Wednesday 23rd July | Doctors BBC1 1.45pm | This is essentially a soap, with a different 'case' each episode. This one deals with a lady suffering from agoraphobia. It could be useful for clips to introduce diagnosis? |
Friday | The Boston Strangler Sony Movie Channel 12.25 to 2.45am | Although this is not on Freeview, if you can access it, do! Although it is a film, not a documentary, it shows a recreation of the psychoanalysis that the Boston strangler attended. There is some doubt as to whether his confession was false, and he wasn't actually the man who committed the murder of 13 women about 50 years ago... food for thought! |
On ITV player | The Speakmans | Treatment for phobias in action! The Speakmans are a husband and wife team of therapists ( yes, really). This is a 'must use' for teaching of phobic disorders, systematic desensitisation and even cognitive therapy. It'll provide you with some useful footage. |
