Psychology on the Box Week commencing 2nd August
1st August 2014
Summer is not usually the best time for series, documentaries and films that might provide resources for you, but there are some programmes which do trigger interest. There is a series starting on Thursday 7th August (Channel 5, 8pm) called ‘The Killer Next Door’ which examines the background behind murders committed in the UK. It has interviews and reconstructions that build a picture of why the crimes might have happened. These are not ‘whodunnits’..they examine the ‘why’ rather than the ‘who’.The first week covers the tragic murder of landscape architect Joanna Yates at Christmastime in 2010, by Vicent Tabak, her neighbour. As it is fairly recent students may remember it. For all specifications this will provide debate material as to which approach or perspective may explain Tabak’s actions most successfully. The 8pm start time also means that it is unlikely to be too upsetting for students, but as always, should be dealt with sensitively.
