Psychology on the Box … Week beginning Saturday 8th August

8th August 2014

Memory, or lack of it, and gangland influence both feature this week in films that could provide you with clips or loans in teaching.

Memento is a fantastic film which shows the effects of short term memory loss on a man who is trying to avenge his wife’s murder. It is thought provoking, gritty and portrays the impact memory loss can have on everyday life. A clip of this film is a great introduction to the memory topic and the components of the multi store model. Beware though...ou will need a loan copy because they will want to see it all. It’s on Film 4 on Sunday at 11.05pm.

On Tuesday there is the film ‘A Better Life’ at 7.05pm. This is quite sociological as it documents the struggle of a Hispanic immigrant father who struggles to raise his son out of the influences of the gangs in the neighbourhood. A good stimuli for discussion into social learning…you could also use it in Sociology too.

Departing from Psychology, on Radio 4 at 4pm there is a new series of programmes on education. The first looks at creativity and how it is rarely taught in British schools. The series might be one to listen to on iplayer or switch on if you’re in the car? Interesting!
