Just a Psychology Teacher...
25th October 2016
I never wanted to be a teacher and yet here I am. I came into the profession with the belief that I could make a difference to someone’s life. I guess this is the reason why many of us turn to teaching.
But exactly how much of an impact do we have? The truth is we may never really know what happens to the hundreds or thousands of children that pass through our classrooms year after year. They spend years in our care and then move onto the next stage in their lives. I often wonder whether I manage to make a difference…

I've been very fortunate to have kept in touch with some of my ex-students. Jan Smith was in the first cohort of A-level students that I taught in Croydon, London. In fact, we have been in touch for some time and I love hearing about her successes. While I'm under no illusion that her success has nothing to do with me...I would like to think that I played a tiny part in her success. I feel immensely proud to have been her teacher, and that she took hold of my passion and made it hers. She has excelled in Psychology and this is something I feel part of. Jan has achieved so much and through all the challenges she faced throughout her journey, she is now currently employed as a Health Psychologist with NHS Education for Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
