Do you need help with your sarcasm?
20th June 2016
It usually takes my students a good six weeks to 'get' my sarcasm and by the end of their second year, they take nothing I say literally.
However, when many people attempt sarcasm in emails and text messages, they later discover that the recipient thought they were being literal. If this has happened to you, then this excellent podcast will help you become more effective with your sarcasm.
Research Digest editor Christian Jarrett speaks to Dr Ruth Filik(University of Nottingham), lead author of a recent study into how emoticons and punctuation can help you convey written sarcasm more effectively. After listening, you'll realise those little winking faces ;-) are no laughing matter. Seriously!
