9th February 2017

Research published in the British Journal of Psychologyhas found that American actors who portray American culture, have the best chance of winning an Oscar award.

The research analysed the distribution of Academy Awards for best actor/actress for both the Oscars and BAFTAs since 1968. The results revealed the US actors dominate the awards, having won more than 50 percent of the 908 awards presented. Furthermore, the results revealed that actors were more likely to win if they shared the same social group membership as the judges.

Overall, American actors won 53% of the BAFTAs (the British awards) and 69% of all the Oscars (the American awards), and British actors won 35% of the BAFTAs and 18% of the Oscars.
