Avoiding nasty surprises… for students taking Unit 1

4th May 2014

If you’re taking Unit 1 in 9 days time then today is probably a good day to check through the specification and see where you need to focus some hours.

Use a highlighter pen to flag up where you need to spend a bit of time. If the specification says ‘including…’ and then lists a series of factors ( such as misleading information, age and anxiety for EWT) then you need to be prepared for a question on any one of those factors.

In May 2013 an 8 mark question worded ‘Outline and evaluate research into how age can affect the accuracy of eyewitness testimony (EWT)’ came up and caught some students out. This kind of question was fine if you had learnt a couple of studies on age as a factor specifically, but some students struggled with this.

So be prepared! Have a look today at what is possible on the specification and ask yourself if you could tackle such a question. Tweet the tutor2upsychology team if you’re unsure if a question can be asked. Or ask on this blog, we will get back to you. Promise!

You don’t need to remember lots of studies. Aim at a minimum of two for each potential question. Then you’ll be sorted…and you’ll avoid nasty surprises on the 13th.
