Attachment: Parental Bond Influences Anxiety in Adulthood

The idea that our early childhood experiences affect our later adult life is not new, and research is still shedding light on how the former affects the latter.

Recent research, from Tokyo Medical University, examined childhood experiences and adulthood feelings of anxiety and self-esteem. The results from 853 adult participants suggest that early childhood experiences affect adult self-esteem, which in turn affects anxiety levels.

AQA Specification Link: AQA students are required to examine the influence of early attachment on adult relationships, and this research provides an interesting modern link that could be used effectively to discuss this connection.
