You probably are not so keen on the last part of the exam…but keeping a cool head will help you immensely. Remember, you won’t be able to design a perfect experiment ( no one ever has). The examiner’s also mark your response bearing in mind you are sitting in an exam hall with a small amount of thought time. So, with this in mind, follow these tips to access the top mark bands..

Tip 1 : Slow yourself down.

There is some time to think…so do it. If you rush straight in you may find yourself struggling to describe a design you are not happy with

Tip 2 : Use what is there!

If there any aspects of the original experiment that you can use, do it! Why re-invent the wheel?

Tip 3: Ethics are important too.

Don’t forget to mention ethical considerations when writing your way through the procedure. It shouldn’t be the main consideration, but show you realise that ethics are important

Tip 4: Imagine you are writing a recipe!

Think about the procedure step by step. It’ll help to clear your thinking and will ensure your answer is clear for the marker.

Tip 5: Use key terms.Try to use any terminology that is appropriate… examiners love it!
