15 Ways to Become Closer to Others

A recent article on the PsychologyToday website outlines 15 ways to form close bonds with other people, including:
- Ask questions
- When the time is right, engage in a little self-disclosure
- Keep privileged information secret
- Show up and be reliable
- Be honest about your feelings
- Share both your joys and sorrows
- Share memories
- Ask the person sitting across from you about a painful event in their past that you have always thought should remain secret
- Try not to overdose on each other
- Try hard not to be judgmental
- Remember the names of significant others in other people’s lives
- Pay attention to what brings out the best in others and talk about these activities
- Be responsive
- Sometimes you just have to let some things go and decide to forgive
- Try very hard to be attuned to others
