US elections: crisis, what crisis?

As Obama’s campaign went negative this week, the McCain camp continued to dominate the news cycle with a quick response to the news about economic meltdown
An argument propagated by the Obama team is that they always planned to adopt a more negative focus as the election went into the final stretch. Ever since the convention McCain has dominated the news cycle, i.e. he has had more press than Obama whenever they have launched/campaigned on newly packaged messages.
Earlier this week Obama aired what has been billed as the most negative ad of his bid for the presidency.
But McCain’s group quickly responded to the news from Wall Street and broadcasted an ad which focused on the economy and why the McCain-Palin ticket is better placed to get America out of its current hole.
But as far as Obama is concerned, his crisis is not the economy. Instead it is the small, but sustained leads that McCain is building in key swing states.
