Palin for President?

Jim Riley

4th July 2009

Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate dropped a bizarre bombshell on the eve of Independence Day by announcing that she was stepping down as Alaksa’s governor.

This has kickstarted a huge amount of feverish specualtion that she is going to use her time to raise her national profile as part of a bid for 2012.

Palin is, of course, the woman who briefly energised John McCain’s run for the White House last year before bombing spectacularly when her polotocal reputation did not bear up to close scrutiny. My personal favourite is that she could not name any of the countries other than the USA that comprised North America.

Does she have any realistic chance? Well, perhaps. There is a theory that parties that lose elections have to hit rock bottom before they begin to see sense and sort themselves out. If Palin were to becoem the nominee it is likely that the Republicans would crash to their worst defeat in recent history.
