There’s a great article by Peter Oborne (one of the sharpest commentators on the British political scene) in today’s Observer. It is an excellent primer on the current political debate on how to handle the economic crisis, and could also act as a consolidating piece on the political consensus idea.
Consider the following questions for discussion:
(1) What political policies characterised the post war period? (2) Why did the post war orthodoxy break down? (3) From the article, how could Tory economic principles be defined? (4) Do you agree with the author that the state does not offer the best solution to the current economic crisis?
