If Milliband wasn't one, what makes a great leader?
20th January 2016
Okay, so it probably hasn't come as much of a surprise to find out that Ed Milliband was not seen by the general public as Prime Minister material. A report published yesterday by the Labour Party (click here for the BBC news article) suggested that public uncertainties about Mr Milliband's leadership qualities contributed to Labour's loss of the 2015 General Election. The report does state, however, that he lead a strong campaign and was relatively well respected.
So what does make a good leader? What are the qualities needed for people to have confidence in a person and want to elect him or her? The best way to answer this is to look at successful leaders and ask 'what qualities makes them a good leader'.
Here's a quick exercise for your students. On the resource here, there are 10 individuals (9 acrredited by Fortune as being among the most powerful leaders in the world and.... Jeremy Corbyn). Ask your students to list 2 reasons why these people may be considered great leaders.
