Helping hand - my top 5 UK politics columnists

My suggestions for students looking to read further.

Andrew Rawnsley, the associate editor of the Observer, indulged in a little cross dressing this weekend. He normally writes on UK politics, but this week his article was on the US elections.

Which got me thinking, where might students turn on a regular basis for a steady diet of quality British politics analysis?

Here are my top 5 suggestions.

Andrew Rawnsley
Notwithstanding what I’ve said above, this commentator is probably the person with their ear closest to the ground in Westminster.

Peter Riddell
The political editor of the Times writes amazingly incisive articles that manage to cover the key developments in a surprisingly small number of words. A prodigious author, and guest at the tutor2u summer Politics Teacher conference.

Nick Robinson
The BBC’s Political Editor will be a familiar face to many students, and his blog entries on the BBC website are listed alongside his TV and radio broadcasts.

Steve Richards
The presenter of the Sunday Programme on ITV churns out cracking articles on British politics for the Independent.

Bagehot
This weekly column, named after the 19th century constitutional scholar and former editor of the Economist, can sometimes be a bit oblique, but is frequently brilliant.

Jim Riley

Jim co-founded tutor2u alongside his twin brother Geoff! Jim is a well-known Business writer and presenter as well as being one of the UK's leading educational technology entrepreneurs.
