Operation Omid, the biggest planned offensive by Nato in the Afghanistan war effort, is about to be launched and apparently its focus will be on dealing with social and political problems in the region of Kandahar. In ‘New’ Warfare or more accurately ‘Hybrid conflict’ military operations go hand in hand with social and political factors and Operation Omid clearly illustrates this. Not least is the important aspect of tackling corruption and aiming to provide good governance.

It asserts:
Operation Omid is not about killing Taliban fighters. “It is about protecting the population, about changing the political culture and perception.
