Free European Union resource

Jim Riley

18th February 2008

For some of us, it’s that time of year again. Yes, scrabbling round looking for a resource on the EU that is comprehensive, accessible and reasonably up-to-date.

I suggest the latest guide from the europa office.

The story of a unique political project (nowhere else have countries voluntarily surrendered sovereignty to a supranational body) that is the EU is a difficult one to tell at A level.

This is a job made harder by the fact that there are slim pickings when it comes to appropriate resources—EU coverage tends to fall between two stools in terms of being either aimed at younger learners or those of degree level standard.

One of my colleagues from languages forwarded me this link. There is probably too much here to merit copying the whole docuent for students, but I have uploaded to our intranet site and will definitely plunder parts of it for lessons.

If anyone else comes across good stuff on this tough topic, perhaps they could add details here.
