The UK is rare in having an uncodified constitution, which stems from a number of sources including statute law and conventions. 1997 marked a turning point in British politics with the election of the first Labour government in nearly 2 decades, and provided a chance for Tony Blair to make some fundamental reforms to the UK’s political system, including the UK’s ancient constitution which needed modernisation.
