An in-depth look at Gordon Brown’s first year in office

The Guardian this week is running a series on Gordon Brown’s premiership timed to coincide with the PM’s anniversary of his first year in office on Friday 27th June. Not that I think Brown will be celebrating given that a poll released today puts his party a staggering 20 points behind the Tories.

Tutor2u’s digital politics magazine, First Past the Post, has a feature on Gordon Brown entitled “Brown’s Annus Horribilis” which would make an excellent (I would say that, wouldn’t I?) complement to the series.

Additonally there is a short video by the paper’s Michael White

Today’s article by David Hencke focuses on how Brown’s attempt to micromanage Whitehall has frustrated those in Whitehall.

It is a fascinating portrait. One thing I’m not quite sure of, however, is the continued reference to the supposedly long hours the PM works. A 5.30 am rise and 11 pm bedtime looks pretty standard to us hard working teachers.
