Book for the beach
23rd June 2009
I picked up a copy of Justin Webb’s “Have a Nice Day” at the weekend, which lays out a forceful and intense case for what can be considered positives about the modern USA.
As Webb says in the intro, the book seeks to counter critics who feel that America is somehow all bad and to destroy the knee jerk anti Americanism by critics who seek to hold the country to higher standards than they do others.. It should also provide ammunition for those who tend towards Americophilia.
There is not a massive amount of American Poltics in it (what would text books be for, anyway?) but students would surely develop a deeper understanding of the forces that shape the country’s politics by reading it. It would, then, provide a meaningful context for study of the US political system.
A highly recommended and accessible book for A level students.
