The NCFE T Level Health qualification will introduce students to many new words compromising both Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary.

Tier 2 vocabulary are words used with relatively high frequency by mature language users but are those which may have complex or multiple meanings. Examples of Tier 2 vocabulary for T Level Health students include adaptation, diversity and mechanism.

Tier 3 vocabulary are words used with relatively low frequency but in specific contexts. These are the vocational or technical terms, some of which are unique to the health and science sector. Examples of Tier 3 vocabulary for T Level Health students include benign, chronic, gestational and safeguarding.

This resource supports students to develop their Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary. By encouraging competent and confident use of Tier 2 and Tier 3 language, a student’s skills in understanding and comprehension, as well as productive use of written and spoken language can be enhanced.
