Colour Blindness

Colour blindness, or colour vision deficiency as it is also known, occurs when people are unable to differentiate between shades of yellow, red and green.

Colour blindness can be inherited from parents and may be present at birth or develop later.

Effects of Colour Blindness

  • Find learning at school difficult, if colours are used to support learning
  • Problems with knowing if food is safe to eat
  • Difficulty in identifying safety warning signs so possible difficulty entering into careers such as engineering and air traffic control

Symptoms of Colour Blindness

  • Difficulty in differentiating between colour tone
  • Difficulty in telling the difference between shades of colours
  • Inability to separate blue from yellow
