Weimar is a city in the German state of Thuringia and was the meeting place of the National Assembly when drafting the new constitution.
Weimar was chosen as a city, as it was thought that Berlin would be too unsafe to hold the assembly due to the political instability that was happening at the time. Indeed, whilst the National Assembly was in session the Spartacists revolted in Berlin.
Whilst in the town of Weimar, the new government drafted and then approved the constitution setting up the new republic. Weimar also held a significant cultural importance in Germany and it was one of the key cities that became mythologized by the Nazis under their rule of Germany.
