During 1937, Hitler tested out his air force on Spain to aid General Franco. The results were devastating. Large areas of towns such as Guernica were destroyed killing many of the civilians. The testing of blitzkrieg tactics using Stuka dive bombers proved to be a lethal development in warfare and proved to Hitler that it could be used for maximum devastation elsewhere.
